Angular Cheilitis or Perleche – Is it Possible to Get Rid of It?
If you happen to have Angular cheilitis or Perleche and visit your doctor, you will probably be prescribed with ointments that contain Ketoconazole, Clotimazole, Mycostatin or Hydrocortisone. Better if you will see positive results in 2 days because these are very effective medications for skin infections that are bacterial and fungal in nature.
Angular cheilitis or Perleche is manifested with inflammatory lesions that occur on the labial commisure of the mouth or simply put – lesions on our mouth’s corners. It can occur unilaterally or bilaterally, meaning only one side or two sides of the mouth can be infected. In severe cases, lesions or cracks that are painful can bleed and form crusts. The inside or our mouths, teeth and gums can also be infected.
Angular cheilitis or Perleche can be caused by different factors such as low immune system, deficient in Vitamin B complex and iron, allergic reactions to some medications, or over dryness of skin due to extreme weather conditions. However, the main culprit of the disease is caused by microorganisms particularly the Bacterium Staphylococcus aureus and the fungi Candida albicans.
In the case of the elderly population, the Candidosis perleche is usually the cause for Angular cheilitis. This happens when their mouth lines collapses and because saliva is usually trapped on their mouth’s corners, these areas can provide the best area for fungal growth. An ill-fitting denture is also another cause as well as the poorly managed teeth and poor oral hygiene.
Angular cheilitis or Perleche can be experienced by anyone, even children. Usually during cold weather when common colds are frequent, cheilitis in children is also prevalent. However, no matter how severe or common this infection is, remember that this can be cured. Other than what was mentioned above, anyone can get rid of his cheilitis if he is properly hydrated, have sufficient Vitamins B complex in his system, use lip balm before exposure to extreme weather conditions and not using the things used by infected persons.
